Entry 3-Superstitious

Here we go for the third entry for my task is all about superstition. Roger Sperry said once that our brain have two atmosphere which is right brain hemisphere and left brain hemisphere. Then I understand why a lecturer of mine gives me this task. I have to give the thinking of right brain which I have to be emphatic to other’s concept of right and wrong as the basis of one’s reality. In other word, it is interpersonal skills which I have to project myself in another side of view. While for the left brain thinking I have to be in tune with only one’s very own concept of right and wrong as the basis of one’s reality or to put it more simply it just consider my own view only. Well my opinion for both left and right will be thinking about the superstition that I have chose. Not one, but two superstitious that I will be emphatic and criticize. The superstition that I chose would be for pregnancy women. I am interested to the saying and I chose to take it as my work and to share and with my reader especially my lecturer. It is not because I want to be pregnant as my friends told me because I love baby so much. Nonsense! This is not the time yet, dear friends. Now, let’s begin with my thought or judgment for these things. 

“It is believed whatever affects mother’s mind will also affect the baby. If the mother cries a lot, then the baby will always have a sour face and always cry” 

I have got the message! It is from my right brain. Well it says be emphatic! Let’s see why a father to be create this kind of saying and make a mother to be believe this. Indeed, I do not even know who create this saying but in this is just in my point of view and according to the logical thinking. Maybe this saying is right because the baby is in the mother’s womb and whatever the mother did will be follow by the baby. For instance, my mother told me that I am quite good in English because while she was carrying me inside her, she was teaching and always read English books and always plays with English language. She is an English teacher indeed. Then, when I arrived in this world, my mother kept teaching. Is it making any sense?? For me absolutely yes! Other emphatic words would be the emotional state of pregnant women is important and that is why they should stay as much as possible. Well, let’s look from the left brain thinking. From the logical thinking, I am criticizing this! How come the baby will always cry if the mother did the same thing? The baby knows nothing about the outside world. If the mother talk, it is possible for the baby to hear but the baby do not understand even a word indeed. Then the same goes with the cries, the baby only cries when he or she turns up in this world. Crying is normal for the baby because it shows if the baby wants something from the mother. It do not related to the mother while the mother carrying the baby. The baby cry asking for something, the baby cannot talk yet right?? So, the only way for the baby to communicate is by crying. Move on to the second superstitious.

“To protect the unborn baby from evil spirits, pregnant women are advised to place a knife under their bed” 

I heard screaming in my head. Right brain and left brain fighting over to give an opinion to me. Guys, Stop it! I will write every single opinion. Haha..Just release my tense while writing this task. Back to the story, the emphatic words for this saying would be the knife would be the saviour for the mother and the unborn baby. Well, maybe the evil spirits afraid of the knife and run away from disturbing or taking the baby away. I kept asking myself why under the mother to be bed?? Then I got this, evil spirits will disturb pregnant women while they are sleeping. So, I think that is the reason why a pregnant woman has to place a knife under their bed. Progressing to the next opinion which is the criticize side. I would like to say that this particular saying is nonsense! We should not believe this kind of saying because it against our religion. There is such thing like evil spirit, but we should not believe this. In fact we should pray to Allah to make sure that the unborn baby is saved and protected. Only Allah can give ensure the safety of the mother to be and the unborn baby. The knife will only harm the safety of the pregnant women. The knife can harm the pregnant women as the knife is sharp. The mother to be would tend to be hurt by the knife.

In a conclusion, superstitious is not something that you can believe it for granted. Investigate the background of it before you ended up like blindly follow it or else it will harm you.

Entry 2-Mnemonic

This is my second entry for my blog. This will only talk about mnemonic. I am quite sure all of you know what is mnemonic right?? Mnemonic is something connected to the ability to remember things in my point of view. It makes easier for us to remember things that important. I often use mnemonic in primary school and continue using it in the secondary school without realising that it is mnemonic. Let me give an example, the 7 colours of rainbow. To memorize it, I have created mnemonic to make sure I remember it when the teacher ask or I can use it when I am in the examination hall. So, my mnemonic for the 7 colours of rainbow goes like this “Mat, Jenin, Ke, Hutan, Bawa, Ikan, Ulam”. It represent the 7 colours of the rainbow which is in Malay merah, jingga, kuning, hijau, biru, indigo and ungu. Now in the college I have really discover about the mnemonic and I have given a task to create a mnemonic for the “Rules of 10”. They are

 Indeed, I am not the big fan of Robert Pattison but it is just the letter suite them.The real word for the “Rules of 10” is “Topic, Content, Source, Audience, Rhetorical Function, Purpose, Perspective, Positioning, Impact, and the last one is Visual Literacy”. “Rules of 10” is actually used to criticize the essay for instance. It also can be used to criticize an article or something related to the writing whether the writing is good enough to be written or just says critical thinking about the writing.

Entry 1- Eureka Moment

Eureka moment?? What does it means by Eureka moment?? It is actually a combination of left brain thinking plus right brain thinking and it is equals to synergistic, holistic moment or just simply says Eureka!! It is first quoted by Archimedes. That is what I have learnt and discover in Sir Kamaraziz class. Basically that is my understanding of what Eureka is. Now let’s read from my experience of Eureka moment. First things first, thanks to TV series in TV3, “Hani” because introduce me about the book which title “Bercinta Sampai ke Syurga” without any conscious. My first impression on the book read by one of the actor in the TV series is that love book. It must be full version on how to love until the end of time. Well, as a matter of course as a girl at young age of 19, I am attracted to read the book. Plus the colour of the cover excites me and makes me eager to know what the content is. Later on, I managed to get the book. My father (I call him Abah) bought me one while we went to the book store in the vicinity. But still he is blabber me for what reason I am so excited to have the book. At the moment, I cannot really answer my Abah question because I have not read the book yet. He thought that I am currently fall in love, deeply fall in love with someone. So, my life was a little bit changing after read the book. Do you know why?? In point of fact, the book is not really talk about love but the writer, Hasrizal Abdul Jamil or known as Abu Saif who owns the saifulislam.com blog talk about how life should be, it is a motivation book for teenagers. Especially teenagers who want to know more about expedition of real life from Islam point of view. Love is just the attraction in this book. Can you imagine how intelligent he is to attract the reader to buy and read his book? Even my Abah and Ummi (my mother) said the book is love book and my friends who saw me read the book, says the same word too. Soon after finish reading the book, I realised the book is the second version of “Aku Terima Nikahnya” and “Murabbi Cinta” is the latest version. I have been to several book stores before I meet them and buy them with my own money. Gotha! I see you smiling! I know what you think of. It is all about love, isn’t??  Try to read some and you will know the journey of the book. Well, that is the end of my Eureka Moment. Hope you enjoy it! Last but not least, thank you to the writer because writing such amazing books for teenagers like me, who is in confuse in choosing the right path to be follow and thank you to my Abah and I love you so much because you bought me that special book.

Introducing CL 4623 Blog

Starting my academic blog with the said "bismillah" which means in the name of Allah, I am Nur Atiqah binti Shallahuddin will start to write about the subject CL 4623, Critical Literacy. This is part of my task given by my lecturer name Sir Kamaraziz. Basically, this blog will only talk about the subject and what I have learn in the class for the whole semester.
