Entry 8-General Comments on 4 Articles

Simpe Assalamualaikum for this time to start the entry. In this entry I have to give my general view on the 4 article which written by four well known writer.
The 4 articles are Thinking Folly by Echart Tolle, The Degree of Happiness by Betrand Russell, ...man and women are merely players by Robert Greene and the last one would be The Jews and their Deceits by Adolf Hitler. These 4 articles have driven me crazy plus I have to write The Rules of 10 for of it. It really challenges my ability to critically think about the topic and I have to make decision, to choose side which one I would like to support and totally make my wreck of. The four writers have written a really good article indeed. They make me confuse and think twice before decide which side to be hold up. The 4 articles are hard to argue on because I have to make some research on it to make sure I am on the right track.
Eckhart Tolle
Betrand Russell
Robert Greene
Adolf Hitler

Have you read those four articles?? Read now!! And start critically think about the topic discuss. Let see how creative and brilliant you are in giving out opinion and choose side.

Entry 7-Plato's Myth of the Cave

Does anyone know about Plato’s Myth of The Cave?? No?? Let me brief you what it is all about.

Plato's analogy depicts a group of people being imprisoned in a cave and being tricked into thinking shadows cast on a cave wall are all reality has to offer (they lived their entire lives this way, they've never been outside). But if you can somehow escape, you'll get out of the cave. For the first time, you will see sunlight and 3 dimensions and such, and your mind will be blown; you'll be blinded and confused. Then, you'll want to free others. But the majority of prisoners will not leave with you no matter what you say, convinced that the shadows are the real world.

The cave is an analogy that is trying to make a point about the real world. Consider a philosopher in a world of ordinary city people. Ordinary people don't realize how blind they are in their daily lives. If one such person suddenly started seeing truth, they would at first be blinded and confused. But then they would try to show others. But others won't really listen. If he pushes too hard, they will label him crazy and shun him, preferring to keep their lives comfortable.

It's a bit hard to come up with a "new interpretation" for the myth. This is the intended interpretation; scholars agree this is what Plato meant to suggest. A new interpretation would be ascribing something other than what he meant onto his story.

The movie "The Matrix" is a giant reference to Plato's myth, with the Matrix as the cave, and Neo being an escapee. Neo's first words outside of the Matrix are "My eyes hurt..."

Well back to the questions that I have been ask to do. These are the four questions and the answers:

1.      Choose a setting/reality that is similar to this story.
Well, I would change the setting to the smaller scope which is unrequited love.

2.      In your opinion what do these object symbolizes:

                               I.            The prisoners-the person with unrequited love, the person who still hope for the love
II.            The chains-the feeling of love
III.            The fire-feeling of love which is not reciprocated
IV.            The shadows and the images-shadow of a love one
                            V.            The puppet players-the person that play’s with the person feeling
                         VI.            The old man-parents

3.      Based on the setting/reality which you have selected, why do you think the prisoner hurt his eyes when he first liberated?
The person cannot accept another person other than the person that he love very much.

4.      In the context which you have selected, why do you think that the prisoner still insist that the images which he has seen before are much real that the statues?
The person is used to the shadows and the image of the person that he love, so he can’t believe any other things even it is real.

Entry 6-Simile and Metaphor

As for this time, I was asked to write as many as i want about the simile and metaphor as to indicate that I understand the topic thought by the lecturer. For the first time I was confused to differentiate between simile and metaphor even I have done this in my school days. Madam Choong Lai Guan (my former English teacher), I am sorry. Well, as to make sure that I get what my lecturer said in the class, I have decided to talk about my little sister using those simile and metaphor. Sounds interesting? Let's take a look!

NUR SYAHIRAH BINTI SHALLAHUDDIN

SIMILE
  • as shy as a violet
  • as sweet as honey
  • as cute as a cupcake
  • as clever as a fox
  • as childish as she supposed to be
METAPHOR
·         she is a flower in the meadows
·         she is the apple of my family’s eye

Entry 5-Most Likely to be Jack the Ripper

Jack the Ripper
The best-known name given to an unidentified serial killer who was active in the largely impoverished areas in and around the Whitechapel district of London in 1888. The name originated in a letter, written by someone claiming to be the murderer that was disseminated in the media. The letter is widely believed to have been a hoax, and may have been written by a journalist in a deliberate attempt to heighten interest in the story. Other nicknames used for the killer at the time were "The Whitechapel Murderer" and "Leather Apron".
Criminal Profiling
1.    Surgeon doctor
2.    Mental illness
3.    Wealthy( upper class)
4.    A man
5.    Hate towards women(misogynistic)
6.    Local English man
The Canonicals Five
1.     Mary Ann Nichols
2.     Annie Chapman
3.     Elizabeth Stride
4.    Catherine Eddowes
5.     Mary Jane Kelly

In my point of view Thomas Neill Cream is the most likely to be Jack the Ripper because the features that he have suite the criminal profiling the most. The first thing is he is a doctor secretly specializing in abortion. Means that he had the skill of handling the knife and he knows human anatomy. The second one is he had a record of murdering his mistress’s husband then arrested and sentence to death on 15 November 1892. The killing of the canonical was around late August 1888 and end at early November 1888. So Thomas Neill Cream has insufficient time to kill those five victims. Donald Bell suggested that he could have bribed officials and left the prison before his official release. While, Sir Edward Marshall Hall suspected that his prison term may have been served by a look alike in his place. Furthermore, according to some sources, his last words were reported as being “I am Jack the....”,interpreted to mean Jack the Ripper. At that particular Jack was synonym with Jack the Ripper.
